Cancellation Policy & Patient Responsibilities
Our work together
As your therapist, it is my responsibility to be here at our appointment time, apply my skills, compassion, and education to your treatment, communicate to you when I am going to be unavailable and make provisions for a contact person for you in case of a mental health crisis, maintain my license and my continuing education requirements, and abide by my Code of Ethics as established by the National Association of Social Workers.

Your responsibilities are to:
Honor the Cancellation PolicyYou will be responsible for paying for missed appointments, unless you inform me by phone or voicemail that you are cancelling at least 24 hours in advance.*
NOTE: Insurance companies will not pay for missed appointments. Therefore, the full fee must be paid out of pocket, regardless of what your normal copay might be. |
Use Appointment "Package" Within the Time FrameIf you have bought a “package” of four appointments, all four must be used within the four weeks you’ve paid for, unless we make some other arrangement up front, and the 24 hour cancellation policy applies to these appointment, as well.
NOTE: Packages are not available to insurance clients. |
Arrive on TimeIt is important to arrive on time for appointments.
NOTE: Of course sometimes it’s impossible, due to traffic or other factors, to arrive on time; in such cases our appointment will end 50-60 minutes after the original appointment time, not the time of arrival. |
* Explanation of the cancellation policy: When you make an appointment I reserve that time just for you. No one else can schedule an appointment at your time. So, if you don't show up or don't cancel at least 24 hours prior, that means that time is gone. No one else can schedule then, and my time and income are lost. That kind of thing adds up very quickly. Mine is a small practice, a small business, and for it to be viable, for me to stay in business, do this work, be available for people who need me, I must maintain this cancellation policy. Of course, things happen, we all forget sometimes or life gets hectic. When that happens, just call me as soon as you can and we’ll get back on track!
This cancellation policy is typical in the psychotherapeutic field, and the professions generally. Your doctor, your dentist, and your lawyer may have similar policies. Thank you for understanding.
