LCSW Supervision in Illinois

LCSW Supervision in Illinois

Would you like to learn about the modalities I use in my practice, while working toward your LCSW licensure? Now you can!

I'm super excited to announce that, for the first time, I'm offering clinical supervision for licensure in Illinois!

Including:
  • Working with adults
  • Trauma-informed and trauma-sensitive methods
  • Somatic Psychotherapy/Trauma and the body
  • Person-in-the-environment, decolonizing, justice oriented
  • Body positive, fat positive, HAES-influenced
  • LGBTQ+ welcoming
  • Depth and dream work
  • If wishing to see private clients for psychotherapy, office space is available at low cost ($10 an hour), once in-person sessions are safe again

To supervise with me you don't necessarily have to choose the same modalities I have chosen. However, I am looking to supervise for people who have interest in the general direction, and certainly those who want to work in a trauma-informed and trauma-in-the-body manner. So, if your main interest is cognitive-based modalities this is probably not be the best fit for you.

My training includes (but is not limited to):
  • Somatic Experiencing and other somatic methods
  • HAES
  • EMDR
  • Attachment Focused EMDR
  • Polyvagal Theory
  • Depth Work, the Unconscious and Archetypal
  • Dream Work (dreaming with the land, Animistic, some Jungian-influenced)
  • The role of the Unconscious
  • Earth and ecological psychology
  • Intergenerational trauma
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Canine-assisted therapy
I do have training in CBT and DBT, and while there are elements of CBT in almost every session, I do not do the manualized therapy; while I am trained in the basics of DBT I do not use it in the way a DBT group would, in the manualized way

How to Get Started
1. Email me at margaretlcsw@protonmail.com to request an application packet (after reading what I've written below, of course). I will email it to you.
2. We'll meet remotely (as long as the pandemic is on) for an interview.
3. We'll complete the contracting process.

Specifically, I'm offering supervision for MSWs with an active interest in somatic psychotherapy, trauma-and-the-body work that's grounded in polyvagal theory, and who are interested in bringing the social work values and ethics of social justice, cultural competence, and diversity to their practices through decolonizing the therapeutic space. Additionally and importantly, commitment to anti-racism, anti-white supremacy, decolonizing psychotherapy and social work, and commitment to creating a practice that is open, affirming, and embracing of LBGTQ+ clients is a pre-requisite for working with me.

If you are more cognitively oriented, you should seek supervision with someone who is expert in CBT. If you are interested in combining cognitive therapies with somatic (and possibly depth) modalities, then you may be a good fit for supervision with me.

Clinical supervision is of course required for licensure, and a great opportunity to more deeply understand cases, theory, and practice through interaction and consultation with colleagues. I have completed my LCSW supervision training through NASW-IL, as well as the training Decolonizing Clinical Supervision with Dr. Jessica ChenFeng and Dr. Dana Stone.

Working with me clinicians can build skills in:

  • boundaries and self-care in social work practice
  • developing work rituals to mark the line between work and rest
  • vicarious trauma/burn out prevention
  • tracking your somatic self in order to develop strong and compassionate boundaries, avoid absorbing others' traumas, prevent transference and countertransference, be fully present in the room with clients, increase feelings of safety for clients, sense clients' states, and build a resonant container for trust and healing
  • NASW Code of Ethics and how it supports us in our work
  • resources to understand privacy and confidentiality in electronic spaces, including how to build a social media policy, avoid dual relationships, and avoid HIPAA breeches
  • new ways of looking at complex cases
  • how to deal with ethical issues or dilemmas
  • a stronger understanding of how to navigate the system you work in
  • how to understand and apply current "trauma in the body" neurobiological research (polyvagal theory) in therapy, and what trainings are available to grow these skills
  • how social structures such as colonizer systems, white- and male-supremacy, capitalism, and Earth exploration adversely impact mental and physical health, and how to address those in therapy
  • writing case notes in private practice
  • working with insurance companies
  • some basics of running a private practice
  • some aspects of policy advocacy
  • serving women military veterans and members

Fee is $60 an hour for individuals, group rates are lower. Full and partial scholarships are available for social workers of color and LGBTQ+, please inquire.
